You can change the configuration of an Atlas Infinite cluster after you create it. To modify an Atlas Core cluster, see Modify an Atlas Core Cluster.

Considerations
On Atlas Infinite clusters, compute and storage scale independently. Changing the cluster tier changes the compute available to your Atlas Infinite cluster, and Atlas expands storage as your data grows.
Billing
Atlas Infinite meters compute, storage, and backup as independent dimensions, so each one bills on its own as you change your Atlas Infinite cluster. To learn more, see MongoDB Atlas Infinite Cluster Costs.
Backup
Atlas Infinite clusters include a 24 hour continuous Cloud Backup window at no additional cost, and Atlas enables Additional Backup Retention by default. Limitations
Atlas Infinite has a full list of public preview limitations in Public Preview Availability. The following limitations apply when you modify an Atlas Infinite cluster:
You can't change the database edition of a cluster after you create it, in either direction between Atlas Core and Atlas Infinite. To learn how to select the database edition when you scale a Free cluster or Flex cluster to a dedicated cluster, see Scale a Free or Flex Cluster to a Dedicated Cluster.
During public preview, you can't change the cloud provider or region of your Atlas Infinite cluster. Choose from the supported AWS regions when you create your Atlas Infinite cluster.
During public preview, Atlas Infinite clusters don't support sharded clusters.
Atlas Infinite clusters don't support global clusters.
Required Access
To modify a cluster, you must have at least Project Cluster Manager access to the project.
Edit a Cluster
To change the settings of an Atlas Infinite cluster, send a PATCH request to /groups/{groupId}/clusters/{clusterName} with the Accept header set to application/vnd.atlas.2024-08-05+json or later.
You can't change the database edition. You can change every other setting on this page.
To confirm which edition a cluster runs on, send a GET request to the same endpoint. Atlas returns databaseEdition and the read-only effectiveDatabaseEdition.
Don't use atlas clusters update on an Atlas Infinite cluster. That command accepts a fixed set of options that doesn't include Atlas Infinite fields. Use atlas api clusters updateCluster instead, which sends your request body to the Atlas Administration API unchanged:

Edit Advanced Settings
To change the advanced configuration settings of an Atlas Infinite cluster, run the following command:

You can modify any of the cluster settings on this page using the Atlas UI.
In Atlas, go to the Clusters page for your project.
If it's not already displayed, select the organization that contains your desired project from the Organizations menu in the navigation bar.
If it's not already displayed, select your desired project from the Projects menu in the navigation bar.
In the sidebar, click Clusters under the Database heading.
The Clusters page displays.
Alternatively, if you are already viewing the specific cluster, click the Configuration button.
Modify the Cluster Tier
The cluster tier determines the compute resources available to your Atlas Infinite cluster. During public preview, Atlas Infinite clusters support the M10 through M60 General cluster tiers and the M40 through M60 Low-CPU cluster tiers. Atlas Infinite clusters don't support M80 and larger cluster tiers in either cluster class.
Atlas expands the storage of your Atlas Infinite cluster as your data grows, so you don't change the cluster tier to add storage. To learn how Atlas handles storage on Atlas Infinite clusters, see Manage Storage on an Atlas Infinite Cluster.
Add or Remove Analytics and Read-Only Nodes
Analytics and read-only nodes isolate workloads from your Atlas Infinite cluster's electable nodes. You can add or remove these nodes after you create your Atlas Infinite cluster.
An Atlas Infinite cluster supports up to 5 read-only and analytics nodes combined, in addition to its 2 electable nodes, for a maximum of 7 nodes.
Atlas Infinite clusters deploy analytics and read-only nodes in the same region as the Atlas Infinite cluster, so you can't select an additional cloud provider or region for these nodes. To learn more, see Workload Isolation on Atlas Infinite clusters.
Modify the Max Storage Limit
The max storage limit sets the maximum logical data size for your Atlas Infinite cluster, from 1 GB to 128 TB. When your data exceeds this limit, Atlas blocks writes to your Atlas Infinite cluster. You can increase or decrease this limit after you create your Atlas Infinite cluster.

Modify Additional Settings
The following additional settings apply to Atlas Infinite clusters in public preview. Atlas groups them under Additional Settings and under Additional Settings > More Configuration Options:

Modify Cluster Details
Add tags, view existing tags, and manage tags. To learn more, see Manage cluster Tags When You Modify an Existing Cluster.
Important
Don't include sensitive information such as Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or Protected Health Information (PHI) in your resource tags. Other MongoDB services, such as Billing, can access resource tags. MongoDB also sends cluster resource tags to DataDog and Prometheus integrations. Resource tags are not intended for private and sensitive data. To learn more, see Sensitive Information.
Review and Apply Your Changes
Click Review Changes to review the changes you have made.
The Review Changes page displays a side-by-side summary of the modified attributes, with any warnings or notes about the changes. It lists the original settings on the left and the new settings, with pricing changes, on the right.
Once you have reviewed the changes, click Apply Changes to apply them to your Atlas Infinite cluster.
