View a Backup's Snapshots

By default, Ops Manager takes a base snapshot of a backed-up deployment every 6 hours and retains snapshots as described in Snapshot Frequency and Retention Policy. Administrators can change the frequency and retention settings.

You can view all available snapshots, as described here.

By default, Ops Manager takes on-demand snapshots with the same retention that you configured on the snapshot settings for the daily snapshot. An on-demand snapshot doesn't alter the existing snapshot schedule. You can view on-demand snapshots on your View All Snapshots page.

Note

  • When you add or remove a shard from your cluster, Ops Manager initiates an on-demand snapshot.

  • If Ops Manager is configured to take automated snapshots, on-demand snapshots are not available in the time between Ops Manager instance creation and the first automated snapshot. If you require an on-demand snapshot before the first automated snapshot is scheduled to occur, see Snapshot Frequency and Retention Policy to learn about adjusting the automated snapshot interval.

Note

If a snapshot is in progress, you can't initiate an on-demand snapshot on the Ops Manager UI or the Ops Manager Public API.

To take on-demand snapshots:

  1. Click Continuous Backup, then the Overview tab.

  2. On the line listing the process, click the ellipsis icon and click Take Snapshot Now.

  3. On the pop-up modal that appears, configure the retention value and click Take Snapshot.
