Uncovering National Treasure: How the National Film and Sound Archive leveraged GenAI and MongoDB to enhance content discovery

The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) is the custodian of a rich treasure trove of materials spanning many decades and media types. In this talk, Shahab Qamar, Software Engineering Manager at NFSA, will explain how they were able to model their catalogue data into MongoDB Atlas, covering:

  • Going from SQL to the Document Model
  • Designing the ETL, search indexes, facets, public API and the frontend (AWS EC2, Cloudfront, WAF, CloudWatch and ELB) and React frontend development (AWS Amplify)
  • Beyond full text search: Leveraging Atlas Vector Search and GenerativeAI to provide an enriched experience for users
