What is the difference between MongoDB Community Edition and MongoDB Enterprise Server?
MongoDB Enterprise Server provides several capabilities not available in the MongoDB Community Edition, such as in-memory storage engine for self-managed deployments, auditing self-managed deployments, and Kerberos authentication on self-managed deployments.
Core server capabilities are generally the same in the two editions, however a MongoDB Enterprise Advanced subscription includes additional operational and management tools, a commercial license, as well as access to 24/7/365 technical support.
What is the difference between MongoDB Atlas and Enterprise Advanced or Community Edition?
MongoDB Atlas includes a fully managed cloud database and associated data services. This means backups, patches, upgrades, and other operational tasks are automated and handled for you.
MongoDB Enterprise Advanced is a self-managed comprehensive suite of products and services designed to develop and support mission-critical deployments. Ops Manager enables you to automate operations including deploying, monitoring, backups, scaling, and upgrades.
You can download MongoDB Enterprise Server or Community Edition to develop locally, however, you will not have access to Atlas-specific features such as auto-scaling, Atlas Vector Search, Atlas Stream Processing, Atlas Online Archive, Atlas Charts, and Atlas Data Federation.
