What it is: MongoDB Atlas now allows customers to initiate backup snapshot exports directly from the Atlas UI. Previously available only through the Atlas Administration API, this enhancement provides a simple, guided workflow for exporting cloud backup snapshots – either manually or on an automated schedule – to the cloud storage provider of your choice (AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage, or Google Cloud Storage), without requiring any programmatic setup.
Who it's for: This is for database administrators, DevOps and platform engineers, and operations leads who manage backup policies and compliance requirements through the Atlas UI rather than programmatically, particularly teams in regulated industries with data portability, archival, or disaster-recovery requirements.
Why it matters: This update makes snapshot exports more accessible to teams that prefer UI-driven operations, streamlines day-to-day backup management, and reduces the need for custom tooling. Customers can now initiate exports, monitor progress, and manage backup distribution from a single, intuitive interface, improving usability while maintaining the same reliability and flexibility already provided by the Admin API.
How to get started: From your cluster's Backup tab, select "Export" from a snapshot's action menu, choose your destination cloud storage, and follow the guided setup to configure your bucket and start exporting.
