MongoDB for Time Series Data Part 1: Setting the Stage for Sensor Management

The United States is beginning to make its transition to self-driving cars. To facilitate the transition, the United States Department of Transportation is setting up central service to monitor traffic conditions nationwide, deploying sensors throughout the interstate system that monitor traffic conditions including car speeds, pavement and weather conditions, as well as accidents, construction, and other sources of traffic tie ups. MongoDB has been selected as the database for this application. In this first session, we will walk through designing the application’s schema that will both support the high update and read volumes as well as the data aggregation and analytics queries.
