The City of Chicago: Analyzing unstructured data in real time to build a smarter city

PublishedFebruary 9, 2018

The City of Chicago is the third largest city in the United States with nearly 3 million citizens spread across over 240 square miles.

Tom Schenk, Chief Data Officer for the City of Chicago, built a data-driven solution called the WindyGrid that enables a more proactive approach to improving city operations. The WindyGrid platform ingests data from over two dozen different systems across 30 different departments and analyzes it in real-time. This allows city officials to see everything that is happening as it happens and more effectively deploy city resources.
