Still no vector search on Community Edition?

Hi,
I’ve seen this post: Full-text and vector search for MongoDB Community

Yet, I'd like to add that I find it incredible that MongoDB doesn't have vector search on Community Edition in God's Year 2025 already. Words cannot describe my astonishment. Why force me use Elastic? Why force me use Postgres? (I'm actually using both already) I just wanted a simple unified stack. And I don't want Atlas, I don't want AWS, I don't want Azure. And who tf wants GPC. AGI is here but MongoDB hasn't yet released vector search. Just wow :)

Thank you for your work though - please release this ASAP, you’re already very late to the party.

Maybe instead of grousing and grumbling at the MongoDB team, you asked privately to be admitted to the early access program, you’d already have vector search on your laptop :wink:

I’m calling it for what it is: a strategic misstep by MongoDB leadership in a competitive vector search landscape that’s been clear for years. Kudos to engineering for delivering. Credit where it’s due. But leadership delayed what should’ve been an obvious alignment with industry trends. Sweet talk has its place, but sometimes the hard truth needs to be said.

That’s a point of view, but as someone who has watched technology come and go and business come and go, I realized as an outsider, I can’t always judge the business case. And, as I mentioned, there was some kind of early access program, and if you feel strongly enough about the matter, perhaps you should find a way to apply and then be in a position to better judge if the technology is ready for release.

As I tagged up front (but apparently not visible due to formatting), this was an explicit rant, born of genuine MongoDB appreciation: I want it to be my one-stop shop for vector and “modern” text search.

You’re not alone in your disappointment of the timeline of delivery of this feature to Community Edition. Many of us were expecting it last year, but it is good to see the EAP just around the corner!
