SSPL license of MongoDB when deployed on customer premises

I understand that, if MongoDB is simply used as a backend database (not directly exposed to the customer), then one can use the MongoDB Community Server for free even for commercial applications.

What if the MongoDB server is also deployed on customer premises, but still used as a backend database for other software: Is this still fine with the SSPL license of MongoDB?

Many thanks!

I have interpreted SSPL to mean if you are running MongoDB as a service (making your own mongodb atlas for example to sell DBaaS) then you are obligated to release the modified source along with that of tools, interfaces, management software etc…

If you are deploying mongodb as part of the application stack you are providing customers then, no, it does not apply.
