Max is a seasoned data and database professional at Capgemini with extensive experience in database administration, architecture, and data engineering. He has been a strong advocate for MongoDB within his organization, helping build MongoDB expertise and supporting others on their learning and certification journeys. His contributions have included helping establish a MongoDB Center of Excellence at Capgemini and enabling consultants to deepen their MongoDB knowledge.
Max’s commitment to sharing knowledge, mentoring others, and growing MongoDB expertise makes him an incredible part of the MongoDB Community. We’re thrilled to celebrate his contributions as our EMEA Champion of the Month! 
We asked him some questions about his journey, so read on to learn more about the icon, Max Hoarau. 
Tell us about your path to becoming a MongoDB Champion
My MongoDB journey started with a prank from a former colleague. Without telling me, he enrolled me in a MEAN stack training program and only informed me on the first day. I accepted the challenge, and that’s how I discovered MongoDB. What started as a surprise soon turned into a passion. MongoDB University practically became my browser’s homepage, and Kirby Kohlmorgen became like my personal mentor. As my experience grew, I started sharing best practices and architectural guidance with colleagues, customers, and the community. Becoming a MongoDB Champion is a great opportunity to give back.
You’ve been a MongoDB Champion for some time now. What drives you to continue helping the community?
What keeps me engaged is the opportunity to help others solve real-world challenges. I enjoy sharing practical experience that can accelerate learning and improve project outcomes. MongoDB continuously evolves, making it an exciting technology to follow and discuss. Beyond the technology itself, I value the community: learning from peers, exchanging ideas, and supporting professionals at different stages of their careers. Every conversation, workshop, or mentoring opportunity reinforces my belief that strong communities help individuals and organizations grow faster together.
Can you share one impactful moment you’ve had as a Champion so far?
One of my most rewarding experiences has been helping organizations gain confidence in adopting MongoDB for strategic initiatives. In several cases, teams were initially hesitant due to concerns about enterprise adoption and scalability. Through architecture reviews, workshops, and sharing real-world examples, I helped them overcome their doubts and succeed. Seeing projects evolve from uncertainty to production success has been incredibly satisfying. Knowing that community knowledge and experience can directly influence business outcomes is one of the most impactful aspects of being a MongoDB Champion.
If you could share one piece of advice to people in tech, what would that be?
Stay curious and never stop learning. Technology evolves constantly, and the ability to adapt is often more important than mastering a specific tool. Just as importantly, don’t learn alone. Share your knowledge, ask questions, participate in communities, and learn from people with different perspectives. Technical expertise opens doors, but collaboration and knowledge-sharing create lasting impact. The most valuable opportunities in my career have often come from continuous learning combined with active engagement in professional communities. So never stop learning, but don’t do it alone.
