Kenneth Westelinck Introduction

Hi all,

In this post I would like to introduce myself.
So you already know my name. I am from Belgium and live close to Ghent. I started my career in 2000 as an Integration Specialist. Connecting legacy applications with more modern applications using ESBs and XML messaging was a thing, back then.

In 2007 I finally saw the light and started a new job at a different company as a fulltime software developer (Java). There I had the opportunity in 2015 to work as lead developer on a Virtual Learning Environment for a publishing company. This Learning Environment was for pupils aged between 6 and 12 years old. The backend for this application was a MongoDB cluster. I did not know mongo back then, so I started to read some books (MongoDB: The definitive Guide) and followed some trainings (M101J, who still remembers this one?).
Back then, I was really impressed by the possibilities of MongoDB and the performance of the brand new wired tiger storage engine. I loved the project. I loved working with MongoDB.

A few years later (2017) I started my current job with A.C.A. Group. We have offices in Ghent, Antwerp, Leuven and Hasselt. I haven’t worked with MongoDB in a while, but the moment my BU leader asked me to take an important role in a partnership with Mongo, I immediately said yes. So here I am.

Currently I am team lead for a small internal project that will store its data in MongoDB. The application itself runs on top of quarkus and it has a react front end, all fun stuff.

I really want to pick-up my knowledge with mongo and like to meet likeminded people in user groups. So we will be organising a MUG in the near future in our Antwerp Office. Please keep an eye on the events page, more info to come soon.

I hope to meet some of you on a future event.
