I can't connect to my MongoDB using Compass

I can’t use my Compass tool to connect to my MongoDB.

I have even uninstalled and reinstalled Mongo-community@7 but it’s still the same error

When I run brew services list
mongodb-community error 15872 newaccount ~/Library/LaunchAgents/homebrew.mxcl.mongodb-community.plist

When I try to connect from Compass, I get a connect ECONNREFUSED 127.0.0.1:27017 error

I’m using MacOS Sonoma 14. This is frustrating, not sure what to do anymore

mongod is looking for /data/db to store data. Either create that and make sure the user you run mongod with has permissions to access it or create a folder for data somewhere else and pass it as an argument to mongod (https://www.mongodb.com/docs/manual/reference/program/mongod/#std-option-mongod.--dbpath).

Then mongod will start fine and Compass will connect to it.

I created /data/db under /Users/{user}/data/db

when I ran mongod again, I got this

You probably already have another mongod running. Address already in use means the port is already being used.
