Error when Running Mongod Command

I’ve tried to install mongoDB via homebrew. I had already installed it one other time ~4 months ago, so I think I may have messed up a few things in the process.

When I run mongod, I get this error:

I’ve tried all fixes I’ve seen online with restarting / killing prior sockets and whatnot but I can’t get anything to work. Any help is really appreciated!

It says non existent dirpath /data/db
You have to make sure dir exists
I think on Macos access to this path is removed
So you have to choose another dir where mongod can write

Thanks for your reply, I thought it may be something related to this. Do you know how I can choose that?

When you run mongod without any parameters it tries to bring up mongod on default port 27017 and default dbpath dir /data/db
Macos doc suggest to use /System/volumes
Please search our forum threads
or
You can use your home directory
In that case you have to start
mongod --port xyz --dbpath your_hd_path --logpath --fork
Again check mongo documentation for exact syntax and various command line params

I created a path as such:

~/data/db/

And I ran mongod --dbpath /data/db/

It seems to have worked the directory now contains:

You should run mongod only once
What you need is mongo to connect to your mongod
Use mongo to connect to your instance
Also you started mongod in the foreground.This terminal should be always active and you should open another terminal to connect to it
If you want to avoid this you should start mongod in background using --fork

That makes sense. I tried opening another terminal and running mongosh, but it yielded this error:

MongoNetworkError: connect ECONNREFUSED 127.0.0.1:27017

I think this is because the mongo isn’t was never running because it is still giving me an error?

Nevermind, I got it working with:

mongod --dbpath data/db
mongosh
