Backporting of issues fixed in v5

This issue was fixed in 5.3.0

Could someone explain how/when/if it would be backported to 4.2 or 4.4?

thanks for your question.
The team has recently backported SERVER-60412, and it will be included in the 4.4.14 and 4.2.20 releases.
