Relational databases have been an important part of the software ecosystem for decades, but organizations are increasingly considering alternatives to legacy relational infrastructure. Driven by Big Data, a search for improved productivity or other factors, more organizations are looking to so-called NoSQL databases to meet modern application requirements. But the term NoSQL is misleading. While in some respects it captures the excitement around a slew of new databases that challenge the relational model, it conflates all sorts of different database types -- over 100 document, key-value, wide-column and graph databases -- that are more different than they are similar. Each differs markedly from the others, with different models and capabilities relative to data storage, querying, consistency, scalability and high availability.

As organizations evaluate this new crop of databases, they should consider 5 critical dimensions to make the right choice for their applications and their businesses. In this webinar, we describe these dimensions and define requirements for a truly modern database.
