Received Highest Scores Possible in Areas of Big Data Support, Performance, Scalability, Tools, and Ability to Execute

NEW YORK, NY and PALO ALTO, CA — August 17, 2016 — MongoDB, the database for giant ideas, today announced it was named a Leader by Forrester Research in its report, The Forrester Wave™: Big Data NoSQL, Q3 2016, by Noel Yuhanna.

MongoDB received the highest scores possible in 19 of the 26 criteria evaluated, including big data support, performance, scalability, tools, workloads, ability to execute and road map. According to the report, MongoDB “remains the most popular NoSQL database”, is considered “easy to use, scales to meet the most demanding applications, and offers the most comprehensive ecosystem of tools and partners.” NoSQL is a broad term that includes any database that does not map data in a relational model.

The report also explains that common use cases for MongoDB include personalization, real-time analytics, internet of things, product/asset catalogs, mobile applications and content management.

The Forrester Wave™: Big Data NoSQL, Q3 2016 found NoSQL is gaining momentum across industries and “has become a necessity to support next-generation applications.” This is due to the ability of non-relational databases to “support scale-out architecture leveraging low-cost compute servers that are clustered to deliver performance of large, high-end SMP servers.” Nearly 30 percent of technology decision-makers surveyed in the report said that they have either already implemented or are in the process of implementing NoSQL technology.

More than 2,000 customers, from startups to enterprise organizations, rely on MongoDB to build applications never before possible including AXA, Barclays, Comcast, DHL, Expedia, Sprinklr, UPS i-parcel, The Washington Post and x.ai.

Speaking about their experience of using MongoDB, Murali Swaminathan, EVP, Client Success and Engineering at Sprinklr, said, “We deal with petabytes of social data and operate at a global scale on behalf of the world’s most respected brands. Working with MongoDB, we’ve been able to consistently take on and overcome the new and highly complex engineering hurdles necessary to meet the rapidly evolving needs of our customers.”

“UPS i-parcel must provide immediate and accurate cross border shipping costs, as this is a critical factor in consumer’s online purchase decision,” said Yursil Kidwai, VP of Technology at UPS i-parcel. “We help our retail customers grow their business globally while relying on us to manage the complexity of shipping, customs duties, multiple languages and currency conversion. MongoDB provides a flexible platform that helps us meet our customers’ requirements for real-time transaction data to enable higher shopping cart conversion rates.”

Dev Ittycheria, President & CEO, MongoDB said, “Our strategy is to make MongoDB the clear choice for a wide variety of use cases and the most mission critical workloads. It is working. Our product innovations are compelling organizations to accelerate not only the development of new applications on MongoDB, but also migrate existing workloads to MongoDB from legacy platforms.”

He added, “It’s always gratifying to see our strategy recognized by big analyst reports, but the true benchmark for us is how many developers and organizations are adopting MongoDB's products and services, including MongoDB Atlas, our new database as a service. We continue to see explosive growth of customers in nearly every major market and vertical industry.”

In June 2016, MongoDB released MongoDB Atlas, an elastic, on-demand cloud service that includes comprehensive infrastructure and turnkey management of its popular database.

Forrester Research’s evaluation included a review of 15 big data NoSQL vendors.
