MongoDB Atlas reinforces best-in-class security with Cross Region VPC Peering and adds SSD-attached storage
NEW YORK, NY – November 28, 2018 – Today MongoDB, Inc. (Nasdaq: MDB), the leading modern, general purpose database platform, announced a number of advancements to its cloud suite that includes MongoDB Atlas, its fully-managed database as a service that runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure, and its serverless platform MongoDB Stitch.
MongoDB Atlas is the best way to run MongoDB in any cloud
Today, MongoDB announced new high-throughput clusters in MongoDB Atlas on AWS to help teams accelerate existing applications, or enable new ones, with enhanced capabilities for real-time workload processing. Featuring local Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) based SSDs and Bare Metal instances, these new Atlas clusters are optimized for low latency, very high I/O performance, and high sequential read throughput to large data sets on local storage.
MongoDB Atlas will support Cross-Region VPC Peering, allowing Atlas database clusters and customers’ VPC resources - such as Amazon EC2 instances - to communicate with each other using private networking across AWS regions. Traffic between database nodes and customer VPCs using Cross-Region VPC Peering never traverses the public internet, thereby reducing threat vectors, such as common exploits and DDoS attacks, while also removing the operational overhead of maintaining custom networking configurations. “In just two and a half years, Atlas has grown to thousands of customers as well as more than 200,000 free tier users. MongoDB Stitch, the company’s serverless platform, facilitates the rapid development of mobile and web applications while giving developers unparalleled access to database functionality and providing the robust security and privacy controls expected in today’s environment.
Today, MongoDB announced Stitch Hosting, which provides a solution to configure, host, and deploy an application's web assets, such as images, audio, HTML and CSS files. Combined with the other services which make up the Stitch platform--including QueryAnywhere, Functions, and Triggers--Stitch Hosting enables users to run their entire application on MongoDB Stitch and MongoDB Atlas. By serving up static content, Stitch is the only backend you need when building web applications; there is no need to add an application server just to store and serve this static content.
