MongoDB as a Data Warehouse: Time Series and Device History Data (Medtronic)

Medtronic is the world’s largest medical technology company, offering an unprecedented breadth and depth of innovative therapies to fulfill our Mission of alleviating pain, restoring health, and extending life. Massive amounts of data are generated during the manufacturing and testing of components at Medtronic’s Energy and Component Center. Real-time monitoring and analysis of this data is the key to ensuring R&D efficiency and product reliability. MongoDB is helping Medtronic reduce the cost of collecting, curating, and maintaining this data. Medtronic is pursuing MongoDB as a replacement to traditional relational enterprise data warehouses for capturing time series data and storing device history records. An overview of these use cases will be given. In addition, the challenges associated with using MongoDB in a highly regulated environment and integrating it with existing enterprise reporting and analytics tools will be explored.
