Attribute Pattern and the Wildcard Index: Is the Attribute Pattern Obsolete?

The attribute pattern has been the preferred strategy when dealing with documents that have many optional queryable fields. MongoDB introduced the wildcard index to address the same issue, at a first glance it might seem the wildcard index supersedes the attribute pattern. In this talk we will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of both approaches based on schema complexity, coding flexibility and performance and we will establish guidance on when to use each approach.
