Support a wide spectrum of use cases

These new capabilities allow teams to address more application use cases with a consistent developer experience and a more elegant data infrastructure.

Time series collections

Time series collections allow you to support the unique requirements of time series workloads. MongoDB 6.0 introduces improvements to compression, secondary indexes on measurements (including compound indexes and 2dsphere indexes to enable geospatial queries and improve read performance), and optimizations for sort operations.

New Atlas Search functionality

MongoDB Atlas Search allows you to build relevance-based application search 30% to 50% faster. Search facets allow you to build experiences that let end users more seamlessly browse, narrow, and refine their results by different dimensions. With MongoDB 6.0, Search facets now also support sharded collections.

Power in-app analytics

Deliver richer experiences with in-app analytics that join, scan, or aggregate data. MongoDB 6.0 features $lookup improvements and full support for sharded $lookup and $graphlookup. Coming soon, column store indexes will allow you to dramatically speed up analytical queries without moving data to another system.

Event-driven applications

Change streams allow your applications to listen to and react to changes that occur in your MongoDB database with no added middleware. MongoDB 6.0 makes it easy to retrieve the before and after states of a document to support a broader range of use cases. It also adds support for data definition language (DDL) operations such as creating or dropping collections and indexes.

Control everything from your command line

Now generally available, the Atlas CLI is the fastest way to create and manage an Atlas database. Automate ongoing operations. Register, provision, and manage deployments. Script repetitive tasks. Create users and manage their access. Set up network access and your backup strategy. The Atlas CLI gives you a unified and powerful control pane for your MongoDB Atlas deployment.

Atlas Data Lake

Atlas Data Lake’s fully managed storage capabilities provide the economics of cloud object storage while optimizing for analytical queries. Atlas Data Lake reformats and partitions data as it is ingested from Atlas databases, creating a highly performant companion data lake.

Atlas Data Federation

Atlas features built-in data federation capabilities that allow teams to create virtual databases and work with data that resides in different sources. Development teams can query, transform, or create views across multiple collections, MongoDB Atlas clusters, and cloud storage buckets.

Atlas SQL Interface

Now available in preview, the Atlas SQL Interface provides an intuitive, read-only interface for analysts to interact with Atlas data. Plus, analyze data across Atlas clusters and cloud object stores using SQL — no need for data manipulation, schema definition, or data flattening.

Atlas Serverless databases

Serverless databases are now generally available. Support a wide range of application requirements with little to no initial configuration or ongoing capacity management. Take advantage of the ability to scale up or down from zero and to deploy in all three major clouds. Atlas Serverless instances also feature tiered pricing, which automatically reduces costs without upfront commitments.

Cluster-to-Cluster Sync

Continuously synchronize data between clusters across environments whether you’re using Atlas, your private cloud, on-premises, or the edge. Cluster-to-Cluster Sync allows you to easily migrate data to the cloud, create separate test and dedicated analytics environments, and support data residency requirements.

More flexible device sync

Atlas Device Sync connects Atlas databases to Realm, the popular database for mobile and edge devices. A new, flexible sync capability, now generally available, grants granular control over the data synced to user applications, supporting intuitive, language-native queries and hierarchical permissions.

Atlas Data API

Now generally available, the Atlas Data API lets you read or write data in Atlas using standard HTTPS requests. This allows you to easily incorporate your data in situations where it might be difficult to embed a driver (e.g., when working with cloud and edge functions, serverless app platforms, CI/CD tools, or productivity tools).

Vercel integration

Vercel is a popular platform for frontend frameworks and static sites. A new integration makes it easy to get started with MongoDB Atlas as your backend database. Using Vercel's Integrations Marketplace, you can now deploy new web experiences on Atlas with zero configuration and instantly start building with MongoDB.

Query encrypted data

Queryable encryption, available in preview with MongoDB 6.0, introduces the industry’s first encrypted search scheme using breakthrough cryptography engineering. This technology gives developers the ability to query encrypted sensitive data in a simple and intuitive way, with zero cryptography experience required.

Encrypted audit logs

MongoDB 6.0 supports compressing and encrypting audit events before they are written to disk, leveraging your own key management interoperability protocol (KMIP)-compliant key management system. Logs are encrypted to protect the integrity and confidentiality of events — and they remain encrypted even if they propagate through any security information and event management (SIEM) or central log management systems.
