Gary works as Ruby Evangelist / Engineer with the Ruby driver team. He recently worked on GUI using Ruby on Rails for national security with a successful startup acquired by Boeing. Previously in his career, he was a computer researcher at AT&T / Bell Labs. Developments included network multimedia appliances, Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) as found in the iPod, music synthesis with DSPs, Unix networking, and email in the early years. He has a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Current interests also include User eXperience Design (UXD), GPU computing, and programming languages for concurrency. He enjoys tennis, volleyball, music, choir, photography, graphic design, origami, and science fiction. He lives with his wife Linnea in New Providence, NJ and volunteers for Young Life, a community outreach to adolescents.
