# SQL Interface Changelog

**Note: Release Notes Mention Only Releases with Feature Changes**

MongoDB releases SQL Interface drivers and connectors in a continuous deployment manner. This release cadence allows us to continuously improve SQL Interface performance and stability. These release notes capture only those releases that contain direct user feature changes. If a particular SQL Interface release contains only performance and stability improvements, it is not included in these release notes.

*Released September 29, 2026*

- Introduces general availability of the MongoDB SQL Interface (Atlas Dedicated). You can now enable the SQL Interface directly on an Atlas dedicated cluster, `M10` and above, running MongoDB 6.0 or later, with no federated database instance required.

  - Enable or disable the SQL Interface per cluster from the cluster configuration form in the Atlas UI or with the Atlas Administration API. To learn more, see [SQL Interface Server Setup.](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/sql-interface/connect-with-sql-composable.md#std-label-connect-with-sql-composable)

  - Manage schemas for a dedicated cluster with the MongoDB SQL Schema Builder CLI. To learn more, see [Schema Management.](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/sql-interface/schema-management.md#std-label-sql-schema-management)

  - The SQL Interface supports dedicated clusters on both the Atlas Core Database Edition and the Atlas Infinite Database Edition. Atlas Infinite Database Edition is available as a public preview.

- The Atlas Administration API endpoints for the SQL Interface are available in preview. Requests must send the `Accept: application/vnd.atlas.preview+json` header.

- Updates the ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver to version 3.0.0.

  - To connect to the MongoDB SQL Interface (Atlas Dedicated) with the ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver, you must use version 3.0.0.

  - Updates the MongoSQL engine that the driver uses to version 2.0.1.

- Updates the JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) driver to version 4.0.0.

  - To connect to the MongoDB SQL Interface (Atlas Dedicated) with the JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) driver, you must use version 4.0.0.

  - Updates the MongoSQL engine that the driver uses to version 2.0.1.

*Released September 25, 2026*

- Updates the MongoSQL engine to version 2.0.1.

  - Fixes an issue where the `IN` operator applied implicit type conversion to the values in the list even when the compared field is a string. This caused queries, such as `WHERE employeeId IN ('0035759', '1033282')`, to return incomplete results.

*Released September 10, 2026*

- Updates the MongoSQL engine to version 2.0.0.

  - Changes how MongoSQL translates `WHERE` clauses that compare a field to a literal value, such as `WHERE x > 20`. These comparisons are now translated to MongoDB match language instead of `$expr` expressions. MongoDB match language applies type bracketing. With type bracketing, MongoDB compares only values that have the same type as the predicate of your query. This change encourages index usage, but it may affect the results of your queries if your fields are polymorphic. MongoSQL queries that run through Atlas Data Federation are not affected.

    Consider the following collection, where one document stores `age` as the number `25` and the other stores it as the string `"25"`:

    ```javascript
    [
      { "_id": 1, "name": "John Doe", "age": 25 },
      { "_id": 2, "name": "Jane Doe", "age": "25" }
    ]
    ```

    To return all users where `age` is greater than `20`, you can write the aggregation pipeline with `$expr`:

    ```javascript
    [
      {
        $match: {
          $expr: { $gt: [ "$age", 20 ] }
        }
      }
    ]
    ```

    This pipeline returns both documents, even though the `$gt` clause compares against a number:

    ```javascript
    [
      { _id: 1, name: 'John Doe', age: 25 },
      { _id: 2, name: 'Jane Doe', age: '25' }
    ]
    ```

    You can also write the same query using match language:

    ```javascript
    [
      {
        $match: {
          age: { $gt: 20 }
        }
      }
    ]
    ```

    This pipeline returns only the document where `age` is a number. The `{ $gt: 20 }` condition matches only numbers. MongoDB returns only documents that contain numbers greater than `20`:

    ```javascript
    [ { _id: 1, name: 'John Doe', age: 25 } ]
    ```

    Compare the results of your queries as you upgrade to version 2.0. To learn more about type bracketing, see [Type Bracketing.](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/manual/reference/method/db.collection.find/#type-bracketing)

  - Adds support for the higher order functions `MAP`, `FILTER`, and `REDUCE`. Also adds the following functions, which wrap `MAP`, `FILTER`, or `REDUCE` functionality: `ARRAY_CAST`, `ARRAY_EXTRACT`, `ARRAY_COMPACT`, `ARRAY_COUNT_IF`, `ARRAY_REMOVE`, `ARRAY_SUM`, `ARRAY_PRODUCT`, `ARRAY_AVG`, `ARRAY_ALL`, `ARRAY_ANY`, and `ARRAY_JOIN`.

  - Fixes a bug in `LEFT JOIN` and `RIGHT JOIN` operations that meet certain criteria. Specifically, the query used a `LEFT JOIN` or `RIGHT JOIN` with a single field-to-field equality condition in the `ON` predicate, where one field was from the left join source and the other was from the right join source. If the schema indicated that both fields were nullable, the result set omitted some rows. For `LEFT JOIN`, rows from the left source where the join key value was nullish (`NULL` or `MISSING`) were omitted from the result set even though they should have been included. Likewise, the same issue affects `RIGHT JOIN` for rows from the right source. Non-nullish rows that did not have a match were still included in the result sets. Only rows with nullish values were omitted.

*Released August 26, 2026*

- Updates the MongoSQL Transition Readiness Tool to version 1.1.3.

  - Escapes database, collection, and field names supplied by the server before the tool writes them to the generated HTML reports. Previously, a name that contained HTML markup could run script in the browser of the user who opened a report. This fix addresses [CVE-2026-76798](https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-76798) and [CVE-2026-76794.](https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-76794)

  - Escapes query text and user names read from Atlas BI Connector logs before the tool writes them to the generated HTML reports.

  - Neutralizes formula elements in the cell values of the generated CSV reports. Previously, a collection or field name that began with `=`, `+`, `-`, or `@` could run as a formula when the user opened the report in a spreadsheet application. This fix addresses [CVE-2026-76797.](https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-76797)

*Released July 30, 2026*

- Updates the JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) driver to version 3.0.8 and the ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver to version 2.0.10.

  - Upgrades the SQL translation engine to the latest version, which adds query optimizations and fixes an intermittent error that occurred when resolving the right-hand side schema of a lateral join.

*Released July 23, 2026*

- Updates the ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver to version 2.0.9.

  - Adds support for Linux arm64 architectures.

  - Fixes an error that occurred when an application passed a null `catalogName` argument to `SQLTablesW`. The driver now treats a null pattern argument as equivalent to `%`, as the ODBC specification requires.

  - Fixes an issue where the driver could launch an operating system protocol handler for an OIDC authorization endpoint that did not use `https`. The driver now validates the endpoint scheme before opening the URL. This fix addresses [CVE-2026-19502.](https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-19502)

  - Removes the OpenSSL requirement. The driver now uses `rustls` for secure connections.

*Released July 9, 2026*

*Released March 17, 2026*

- Updates the MongoDB SQL Schema Builder CLI to version 1.1.2.

  - Fixes an error that prevented the CLI from generating schemas for time series collections.

*Released March 16, 2026*

- Updates the ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver to version 2.0.6.

  - Improves connection performance on Windows by caching the DNS resolver after the initial fallback. The driver now performs DNS fallback only once and reuses the cached resolver for subsequent connections.

  - Adds automatic retry logic for transient errors. The driver now retries failed operations up to three times with exponential backoff, improving reliability when connections fail due to network instability or idle connection timeouts.

*Released February 26, 2026*

  - Directs schema reads to an analytics node when one is available and falls back to another available node otherwise.

  - Improves the schema production for large datasets with unstable data fields.

  - Limits the number of concurrent tasks that the CLI runs, which reduces memory use and the number of in-flight queries.

*Released February 19, 2026*

- Updates the ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver to version 2.0.5.

  - Fixes connectivity issues for SRV connection strings on Windows by ensuring the driver correctly falls back to the system DNS resolver if the primary Cloudflare DNS fails.

*Released February 10, 2026*

- Updates the JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) driver to 3.0.5 and the ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver to version 2.0.4.

  - Fixes an issue where SQL queries containing an `OR` condition in a `WHERE` clause incorrectly filtered out rows. This occurred when one operand of the `OR` condition evaluated to `UNKNOWN` (due to a `NULL` or missing value in a nullable field) while the other evaluated to `TRUE`. This behavior deviated from standard three-valued SQL semantics and could result in incomplete result sets.

    **Important:**

    - On-premises (EA) users should upgrade to the latest driver versions (JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) driver 3.0.5 or later and ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver 2.0.4 or later).

    - Atlas SQL users receive this fix automatically. However, you should refresh impacted dashboards or re-execute queries to update existing results.

  - For the JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) driver, connection validation failures now include more descriptive error messages that tell you the underlying cause. This improvement specifically assists Tableau Cloud users in diagnosing issues where driver or system logs are not directly accessible.

  - Fixes the ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver compatibility issue with Power BI introduced by the previous version.

- Updates the ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver to version 2.0.3.

  - Upgrades third-party dependencies.
