# Manage Documents in Compass

MongoDB Compass Readonly Edition will be deprecated in a future release. To replicate the read-only behavior in a standard Compass edition, assign users [`read`](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/manual/reference/built-in-roles.md#mongodb-authrole-read) access at the database level and enable the [readOnly](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/compass/settings/read-only.md#std-label-compass-read-only) option in Compass.

Documents are individual records in a MongoDB [collection](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/compass/collections.md#std-label-compass-collection-tab) and are the basic unit of data in MongoDB.

From the Documents tab, you can [view](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/compass/documents/view.md#std-label-compass-view-documents), [insert](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/compass/documents/insert.md#std-label-compass-insert-documents), [modify](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/compass/documents/modify.md#std-label-compass-modify-documents), [modify multiple](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/compass/documents/modify-multiple.md#std-label-compass-bulk-update), [clone](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/compass/documents/clone.md#std-label-compass-clone-documents), [delete](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/compass/documents/delete.md#std-label-compass-delete-documents), and [delete multiple](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/compass/documents/delete-multiple.md#std-label-compass-bulk-delete) documents in your selected collection or view.

**Note:**

For query result sets larger than 25 documents, Compass shows paginated results. By default, pages display 25 documents at a time. To change the number of displayed documents per page, open the drop-down menu under the query bar and select one of the following values:

- 25

- 50

- 75

- 100

From the [query bar](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/compass/query/filter.md#std-label-compass-query-bar), you can specify a query to filter the displayed documents. Click Options to specify query options.
