# Atlas Changelog

## 2026 Releases

### October 2026

- Adds user settings to the Atlas UI Data Explorer. You can now configure the time zone for date display, read-only mode, the default `maxTimeMS` for queries, and the display format for legacy UUID values. Your settings persist across all of your Data Explorer sessions. To learn more, see [Atlas UI User Settings.](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/atlas-ui.md#std-label-data-explorer-settings)

- Adds invited federated users directly to your organization as active members when you use SAML federation and their email domain matches a verified domain in your identity provider configuration, so they no longer need to accept an invitation. To learn more, see [Inviting Federated Users.](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/invitations.md#std-label-inviting-federated-users)

### September 2026

- Public Preview: Releases Atlas Infinite, an Atlas database edition that separates compute from storage into independent layers. To learn more, see [MongoDB Atlas Infinite: Overview.](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/infinite/atlas-infinite-landing.md#std-label-atlas-infinite-edition)

- General Availability: Adds [Intelligent Workload Management](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/intelligent-workload-management.md#std-label-intelligent-workload-management), which protects cluster availability during overload by queuing operations, prioritizing critical work, and shedding excess operations as a last resort. To adjust the protections that apply to your cluster, see [Configure Load Shedding.](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/intelligent-workload-management.md#std-label-configure-iwm)

- General Availability: Adds support for connecting [Atlas SQL](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/sql-interface/) directly to a Dedicated cluster, so you can use the SQL interface without configuring Atlas Data Federation.

- Adds support for streaming [Activity Feed events](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/export-events.md#std-label-export-events) to external tools. You can export events from the Project Activity Feed to AWS (Amazon Web Services) S3 (Simple Storage Service), Azure Blob Storage, Datadog, Google Cloud Storage, Splunk, or any OpenTelemetry-compatible destination, and events from the Organization Activity Feed to OpenTelemetry-compatible destinations.

- Adds support for write operations in [Query Shape Insights](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/query-shape-insights.md#std-label-query-shape-insights), which previously covered only `find` and `aggregate` commands. You can now diagnose the performance of `update`, `insert`, and `delete` commands.

- Improves throughput for operations that require an optimized initial sync on AWS (Amazon Web Services), such as adding or replacing nodes, adding regions, and creating or rebuilding shards. To learn more, see [Enable or Disable Fast Disk Pre-Warming.](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/cluster-additional-settings.md#std-label-disk-pre-warming)

- General Availability: Adds Gen2 support for `M30+` Dedicated clusters on Google Cloud, allowing you to scale disk storage capacity and storage performance (IOPS (Input/Output Operations per Second) and throughput) independently for improved cost optimization. To learn more, see [Gen2 Dedicated clusters.](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/manage-clusters.md#std-label-gen2-clusters)

- Allows you to sign in to Atlas from MongoDB Compass and approve delegated access, so the [intelligent assistant](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/compass/current/query-with-natural-language/compass-ai-assistant.md#std-label-compass-ai-assistant) can use your existing Atlas permissions to inspect Atlas metadata and provide targeted troubleshooting when a MongoDB Compass connection fails.

- Adds a [Shell Syntax Mode](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/atlas-ui/documents.md#std-label-atlas-ui-insert-documents) for inserting and editing documents in the Atlas UI and MongoDB Compass, so you can use consistent MongoDB shell syntax with unquoted field names and type constructors such as `ObjectId()` and `ISODate()` instead of switching between shell and EJSON syntax.

- Removes the option to enable the BI Connector for new and existing clusters ahead of its end of life. To query your data with SQL, use [Atlas SQL](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/sql-interface/) instead.

- Publishes the [end-of-life plan](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/push-logs.md#std-label-pble-eol) for [Push-Based Log Export](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/push-logs.md#std-label-mongodb-logs-push), which reaches end of life on February 4, 2027 and stops accepting new configurations on October 30, 2026. To migrate to external log sinks, see [Export Logs to AWS (Amazon Web Services) S3 (Simple Storage Service) Buckets.](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/export-logs-external-sinks.md#std-label-export-logs-external-sinks)

- Improves the metrics experience in the Atlas UI with a uniform interface and consistent controls for metrics charts across all dedicated cluster architectures, so you can correlate metrics with events and alerts when you monitor your deployment. To learn more, see [cluster metrics.](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/review-all-cluster-metrics.md#std-label-review-all-cluster-metrics)

- Enables you to use [LDAP authorization](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/security-ldaps.md#std-label-security-ldaps) alongside other external authentication mechanisms, including AWS (Amazon Web Services) IAM, X.509, and OIDC, so you can combine authentication mechanisms in a single deployment.

### August 2026

- General Availability: Adds a [FOCUS Cost and Usage Report](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/billing/focus-report.md#std-label-focus-report-overview) that presents your billing cost and usage data in the industry-standard FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification (FOCUS) 1.3 format, so you can reconcile and integrate your billing data with FinOps and cross-vendor cost-management tools.

- Allows you to manage indexes in [Data Explorer](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/atlas-ui/indexes.md#std-label-atlas-ui-indexes) when you have the [Project Index Manager role](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/reference/user-roles.md#std-label-project-roles) combined with the Project Data Access Read Only or Project Data Access Read/Write role, so you can grant granular access to index controls without granting access to data.

- Updates the default number of [cross-region network permissions](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/reference/faq/networking.md#std-label-faq-cross-region) for new projects from 40 to 100. Existing projects are unchanged.

- Adds alerts that notify you when your cluster is impacted by [connection rate limits](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/reference/atlas-limits.md#std-label-connection-rate-limits), so you can identify when your clients are offering more new connections than your cluster can process and act before connections are dropped.

### July 2026

- Reverts the Atlas UI read preference back to reading from the primary unless the primary is unavailable. This restores the behavior that was in place before March 2026.

- Improves Atlas resiliency during cloud provider regional outages. When you start a scaling or region-change operation that requires tearing down resources in an unhealthy region, Atlas now bypasses that teardown safely instead of stalling, so your operation completes without manual intervention. To learn more, see [Reconfigure a Replica Set During a Regional Outage.](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/reconfigure-replica-set-during-regional-outage.md#std-label-reconfigure-rs-during-regional-outage)

- Extends [data validation](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/data-validation.md#std-label-data-validation) coverage to clusters that use CMK (customer-managed key). Atlas runs data validation automatically as a background job to detect silent data corruption, so this requires no action from you.

- General Availability: Adds support for additional payment methods in [Atlas billing](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/billing.md#std-label-atlas-billing), including Link, ACH, SEPA Direct Debit, Google Pay, and Revolut, in addition to existing credit card and PayPal options.

- General Availability: Adds support for Collection- and Database-Level Restore, allowing you to restore an individual database or collection directly into a live cluster through the Atlas UI or the [Atlas Administration API](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/backup/cloud-backup/restore-from-db-coll.md#std-label-restore-from-db-coll). This gives you fine-grained control over recovery workflows, so you can fix isolated data issues without affecting the rest of your application.

- Improves performance of the [Projects page](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/tutorial/manage-projects.md#std-label-manage-projects) by adding pagination, helping you load and navigate large lists of projects more quickly.

- Adds support for setting an operations contact for your Atlas organization, similar to existing security and billing contacts. This contact, which does not need to be an Atlas user, receives operational notifications from MongoDB.

- Adds support for downloading cloud backup snapshots through a private endpoint for Google Cloud, matching existing AWS (Amazon Web Services) and Azure (Microsoft Azure) support. This enhances security by keeping backup download traffic off the public internet.

- Adds automatic scaling of the maximum oplog size on dedicated clusters that use EBS (non-NVMe) storage. When you change the storage size, Atlas now resizes the oplog to match the new disk size, even if you never set a custom oplog size. To learn more, see [Oplog Size Behavior.](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/customize-storage.md#std-label-oplog-size-behavior)

### June 2026

- Adds cross-region support for AWS PrivateLink when you [export backup snapshots to Amazon S3](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/backup/cloud-backup/export.md#std-label-cloud-provider-snapshot-export), so you can distribute snapshots to S3 (Simple Storage Service) buckets in other AWS (Amazon Web Services) regions while keeping all export traffic on private endpoints and private IP (Internet Protocol)s.

- Adds cost-effective [Extended Standard IOPS](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/customize-storage.md#std-label-extended-iops-gen2) for AWS (Amazon Web Services) Gen2 Dedicated clusters. You can provision IOPS (Input/Output Operations per Second) above the baseline your disk storage already includes, without moving to a higher-cost IOPS (Input/Output Operations per Second) option.

- Updates the storage capacity display for Gen2 Dedicated clusters with local [NVMe SSDs](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/nvme-storage.md#std-label-nvme-storage) to use GiB instead of GB, matching the unit that other cluster tiers already use. Existing AWS Gen1 clusters continue to display storage in GB.

### May 2026

- Adds support for AWS PrivateLink cross-region connectivity. You can now [configure which regions can connect to your private endpoint service](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/security-private-endpoint.md#std-label-manage-accepted-endpoint-regions). - General Availability: Stores source fields in the [Atlas Vector Search](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/search/query/operators-collectors/vectorSearch.md#std-label-fts-vectorSearch-ref) index to reduce query latency, which eliminates unnecessary document fetches during query execution.

- Public Preview: Adds `$similarityCosine`, `$similarityDotProduct`, and `$similarityEuclidean` aggregation expressions that compute exact vector similarity between two vectors within an aggregation pipeline, without requiring a vector search index.

- Public Preview: Extends the `$similarityCosine`, `$similarityDotProduct`, and `$similarityEuclidean` aggregation expressions to accept BinData vectors directly, improving performance by eliminating array conversion.

- Adds a [`$meta`](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/manual/reference/operator/aggregation/meta.md#mongodb-expression-exp.-meta) keyword `searchRootDocumentId` field when you use the [Atlas Search](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/search.md#std-label-atlas-search) `returnScope` operator for searching nested data.

- Public Preview: Enables automated text embedding in [Atlas Vector Search](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/search/query/operators-collectors/vectorSearch.md#std-label-fts-vectorSearch-ref) using Voyage AI models, which eliminates the need for a separate embedding pipeline when performing semantic search on text data.

- General Availability: Improves [Hierarchical Navigable Small Worlds](https://arxiv.org/abs/1603.09320) index correctness in [Atlas Vector Search](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/search/query/operators-collectors/vectorSearch.md#std-label-fts-vectorSearch-ref) by adding new `hnswOptions` index configurations (`maxEdges`, `numEdgeCandidates`) that let advanced users tune graph construction for higher recall.

- Adds Atlas Stream Processing support in four new cloud regions: Microsoft Azure Brazil South (`brazilsouth`), Microsoft Azure Australia East (`australiaeast`), AWS (Amazon Web Services) EU West 3 (`eu-west-3`), and Google Cloud US East 4 (`us-east4`).

- General Availability: Routes identical queries to the same search node using consistent hashing, which produces deterministic results, to improve the consistency of MongoDB Vector Search query results on search nodes.

### 27 August 2025 Release

- Introduces Intelligent Workload Management (IWM), a dynamic resource manager in Atlas. IWM (Intelligent Workload Management) enables real-time workload monitoring and automated safeguards to maintain high availability under load. Write-blocking, now active for eligible clusters, blocks user writes when disk space is nearly full to prevent node crashes and maintain read availability. To learn more, see [Write-Blocking](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/intelligent-workload-management.md#std-label-iwm-always-on-protections). If you enable auto-scaling, your cluster has the opportunity to scale up before write-blocking behavior activates.

- Applies [connection rate limits](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/reference/atlas-limits.md#std-label-connection-limits) to `M10` and `M20` cluster tiers to protect cluster availability. These limits restrict the number of new connections each node processes to 20 connections per second. Connections exceeding these limits are queued, and if the period of overload is sustained, some connections are dropped.

### 6 August 2025 Release

- Adds a total namespaces count to the Catalog cluster metric that displays the total number of collections and indexes across all non-system databases, and adds a new [default alert](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/configure-alerts.md#std-label-default-alert-settings) that warns users when [`Total Namespaces is`](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/reference/alert-conditions.md#mongodb-alert-Total-Namespaces-is) over 10,000.

- Makes the ability to [send resource tags to Prometheus](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/tutorial/prometheus-integration.md#std-label-prometheus-integration) an opt-in feature.

### 8 January 2025 Release

- Adds the [`Project Database Access Admin`](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/reference/user-roles.md#mongodb-authrole-Project-Database-Access-Admin), [`Project Backup Manager`](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/reference/user-roles.md#mongodb-authrole-Project-Backup-Manager), and [`Project Observability Viewer`](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/reference/user-roles.md#mongodb-authrole-Project-Observability-Viewer) roles that allow for more granular access within Atlas projects.

**Important:**

Atlas began replacing the public IPv4 addresses of dedicated clusters deployed in AWS starting January 21, 2025. If you use standard connection strings (`mongodb://`) and have hardcoded IPs, you must update your firewall or security group configurations to allow the new addresses.

This change affects only public IP access. [VPC peering](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/atlas-stream-processing/manage-vpc-peering-connections.md#std-label-atlas-sp-manage-vpc-peering) and [Private Endpoints](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/data-federation/admin/manage-private-endpoint.md#std-label-manage-private-endpoint) are not impacted, as they rely on private networking and not public IPs. The change will be applied in a rolling manner with no downtime, and Atlas will provide guidance before updates take effect.

If you are using SRV-based connection strings (`mongodb+srv://`), no changes are required as DNS will resolve the new IPs automatically.
