Vagrant is currently configured to create VirtualBox synced folders with
the SharedFoldersEnableSymlinksCreate option enabled. If the Vagrant
guest is not trusted, you may want to disable this option. For more
information on this option, please refer to the VirtualBox manual:

https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.html#sharedfolders

This option can be disabled globally with an environment variable:

VAGRANT_DISABLE_VBOXSYMLINKCREATE=1

or on a per folder basis within the Vagrantfile:

config.vm.synced_folder ‘/host/path’, ‘/guest/path’, SharedFoldersEnableSymlinksCreate: false

I did… I even reinstall the virtual machine…

I have disabled the secured boot on my ubuntu machine and it is working now… But now I am getting a Remote connection disconnect error as shown on the screen shot below

Hi @dhaval_singh,

can you run vagrant up --debug instead?

This might be resulting of a few things:

  • ssh key permissions
  • vbox issue
  • other

We need more log information on this one.

N.

How should I fix this?

Hi Dhaval,

Thank you for providing that output. Could you please confirm which version of vagrant and which OS you are on?

There was an issue with Vagrant where the libraries on some versions of OSX don’t support the version of curl bundled with Vagrant 1.8.7.

Thanks,
Barry

I am using vagrant 2.2.0 on Ubuntu 18 Linux Distribution

I suspect you have a problem accessing the Vagrant site to download the box.

What happens if you run:

curl -L -o vm.box https://app.vagrantup.com/ubuntu/boxes/trusty64/versions/20181031.0.1/providers/virtualbox.box

Regards,
Daniel

I had the “remote connection disconnect” error too.
The machine was simply rebooting (as stated above in the log).
My host computer is quite old and slow.
After a minute or two of waiting the process went on and installation was successful.

tl;dr waiting for the machine to boot up could help

Alex,

nice to know that you got the problem solved.
Vagrant and VirtualBox can take a significant amount of resources, so it is a good idea to pause the Virtual Machine (with: vagrant halt) when you don’t use it.

Daniel

Hi Daniel
I was just sharing my experience…
I am afraid @dhaval_singh still has a problem.

I will do one thing, Let me reinstall vagrant and virtual box and then give it a try!

Hello @dhaval_singh, I’m having issues trying to run Virtualbox and Vagrant on a Ubuntu 18.04 machine and suspect it’s related to secure boot also. How did you disable secure boot? Perhaps that’ll help me too!

Old thread but I’m having issues after apparently messing up some files.

" ==> mongod-m103: Waiting for machine to boot. This may take a few minutes…

mongod-m103: SSH address: 127.0.0.1:2222

mongod-m103: SSH username: vagrant

mongod-m103: SSH auth method: private key

Timed out while waiting for the machine to boot. This means that

Vagrant was unable to communicate with the guest machine within

the configured (“config.vm.boot_timeout” value) time period.

If you look above, you should be able to see the error(s) that

Vagrant had when attempting to connect to the machine. These errors

are usually good hints as to what may be wrong.

If you’re using a custom box, make sure that networking is properly

working and you’re able to connect to the machine. It is a common

problem that networking isn’t setup properly in these boxes.

Verify that authentication configurations are also setup properly,

as well.

If the box appears to be booting properly, you may want to increase

the timeout (“config.vm.boot_timeout”) value."

Hi Michael_55596,

If you have messed up files of Vagrant, then follow these steps:

  • If you have your config files set up, copy your config files from vagrant to your local machine through shared directory.
  • Destroy vagrant using vagrant destroy
  • Remove the directory
  • Download m103 zip handout again
  • Provision and up the machine.
  • Copy back your config files to your vagrant.

If the above steps do not work, let me know and share the full log.
