Read/Writes Operation Guarantees - Quiz has inaccurate solution

The option “The write concern tells which server to write data to” is considered incorrect by the grader, however, in the documentation it is stated that you can use a “tagged member” to specify the members to propagate the write operation.

Is my understanding correct?

Hi @Michael_Moraes_Capela,
As per MongoDB’s Documentation:

Write concern describes the level of acknowledgment requested from MongoDB for write operations to a standalone mongod or to replica sets or to sharded clusters.

Therefore, it does not explicitly tells which server to write data to, it just ensures the level acknowledgment.

If you have any doubts, please feel free to reach out to us.

Thanks and Regards.

When reading data, you can direct the request to a tagged target. This is done by “read preference”. however “read concern” determines the freshness level of the data in that target.

When writing data, you can only direct the request to a replica “set” or sharded “cluster” by defining custom write concerns for them then the data will be acknowledged and distributed according to those custom levels maintaining the “consistency” of the data. This is not in anyways telling “write to that server” but it is “send data there before distributing to others”
