MongDB Community @ 6.0 is not working with macOS 13.3.1 (Ventura)

Hello,

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

It’s been 4 days since I’m trying to install and run the mongodb-community@6.0 on my new machine and trying to run my old projects I was working on.

But after trying several methods (even from the official documentation), nothing is working. I’m able to install the communit@6.0 but as soon as I start my app, it disconnects automatically.

I’m using Nodejs@18 and macOS 13.3.1 (Ventura). Please help if anyone could! I have tried to install the older versions as well but they’re also seem to be not working. The same issue with mongodb-community@4.4, mongodb-community@5.0 as well.

Hey @Meghraj_Suthar, what does the mongod.log contain. It should contain all the information you need to troubleshoot why the mongod process isn’t starting on this machine. Once you get that sorted out your node application should work again as expected

This is odd, but you can flush that path out completely as it only contains diagnostic data for MongoDB Support to use when troubleshooting a node (see this blog post for more info).

Try the following to see if it addresses the issue:

# double check this command before running it so you
# don't accidentally delete all your data ;)
rm -rf /usr/local/var/mongodb/diagnostic.data
brew services restart mongodb-commity@6.0

This will remove the diagnostic.data entirely and allow the mongod process to recreate it. This should hopefully address the issue if the only issue that was affecting you was this file not being accessible.

@Meghraj_Suthar this smells like it might just be a permissions error. Can you ensure the /user/local/var/mongodb path has read/write/execute recursively and is owned by the same user that owns the process.

For example, if the user is maggie try something like:

chmod 777 -R /usr/local/var/mongodb
chown -R maggie /usr/local/var/mongodb

@Meghraj_Suthar if this issue is holding up development you can setup a free cluster in MongoDB Atlas as well.

Unfortunately I’m not familiar with managing a node in OSX that was installed via homebrew, however you could try just running the mongod process manually to see if it starts successfully.

mkdir data
mongod --dbpath data

This will just start a mongod on port 27017 without authentication and write to the data directory you just created.

I tried with this too…but still doesn’t work.

The reason I’m setting up is because of development. I cannot check on mongodb cloud for local development changes. It becomes very time consuming. That’s why setting up on local machine makes sense.

Could you please check with your team who’s experienced in this macOS?
