How can MongoDB be used for predictive maintenance models in smart vehicles?

mongo has all the standard features that you could get with other sql databases:

  • geo spatial,
  • search
  • time series
  • sharding (some version of it) in mongo it would be by vehicle id or maybe geo region
  • change streams (underplayed)

from a ml side of things you can run learning models inside aggregation pipelines

at least in this use case the benefit i see is the flexible document structure.
assuming that you dont standardize the data, the data from vehicles generate a variety of fields with varying formats (sensor readings, gps coordinates, diagnositc codes, maintenance records) and all of that can come in different formats. (think different automobiles, vendors, etc) and at different rates

mongo 8 is great at inserting data in bulk. our internal tests have seen bulk writes that are comparable with the charts that mongodb showcased.

there are other sql like databases that you could configure to mimic the flexible document structure, but it’s more of a workaround than it just being flexible to begin with.

i hope that helps! and welcome to the community
