About to fork child process, waiting until server is ready for connections. 2

Hi, don’t know what to do:

in Lab: Logging to a Different Facility

user@M103# mongod -f mongod.conf
about to fork child process, waiting until server is ready for connections.
forked process: 345
ERROR: child process failed, exited with error number 100
To see additional information in this output, start without the "--fork" option.
user@M103#

Try to run the command again after commenting fork option in your config file
Most likely your logpath is not correct or some permissions issue

commenting fork option ==> nope

user@M103# cat mongod.conf
systemLog:
  path: "/var/mongodb/logs/mongod.log"
  destination: "file"
  logAppend: true
#processManagement:
#  fork : trueuser@M103# mongod -f mongod.conf
user@M103#

logpath is not correct ==> nope

Use a configuration file to store log files in a new location:

Update your configuration file such that:

mongod sends logs to /var/mongodb/logs/mongod.log

some permissions issue ==> nope

Use the following command to connect to the Mongo shell and create the following user. You will need this user in order to validate your work.

What is the result when you ran without fork?
Where is your dbpath?
Did the lab ask you to create the config file or edit an existing one?

Hi @chris_Machu,

Welcome to the MongoDB University forums :sparkles:

Click on the Reset Workspace button, and then refresh the page. After relaunching the IDE, try to execute the command again.

I hope it helps!

Thanks,
Kushagra
