Diversity is a core value of MongoDB and to make sure that there is diversity, it is essential to create real opportunities. That's the idea behind our Diversity and Innovator Scholarship programs which have been in place since 2014 and 2016 respectively. These scholarships are now open for applications and nominations until April 19th.

The Diversity Scholarship

The Diversity Scholarship is all about giving members of groups that are under-represented in the technology industry an opportunity to connect with that industry. That means that individuals from the Black, LatinX, women, people with disabilities, people from low-income backgrounds, and the LGBTQ communities can apply for a Diversity Scholarship. In fact, if you are a member of any under-represented group, you are eligible to apply.

The best place to connect is where everybody is, so the scholarship includes admission to MongoDB World and admission to a workshop of your choosing. Now, if you aren't from the tri-state area, you may be concerned about where to stay in New York. This year, the scholarship includes hotel accommodation for the three days for applicants outside the tristate area, removing another barrier to getting connected with the tech industry.

At MongoDB World, you'll also be able to enjoy lunch with other Diversity Scholars and be speed-mentored by MongoDB speakers. Like other attendees of MongoDB World, you'll be able to enjoy the keynotes and sessions including the track at the Women and Trans Coders lounge.

And after MongoDB World, you'll receive six months of access to the on-demand courses on MongoDB University. That all comes with a voucher which will allow you to do the exams and be certified as a MongoDB developer or DBA so you can verifiably build up your resume.

You'll also become one of the lifelong members of the online MongoDB Diversity Scholars community so you can keep connected and we'll be looking to feature you and the other scholars in a future article on the MongoDB blog.

If you feel like you fit who we are looking for, please check out the full terms of the scholarship and apply now because applications close on 19th April 2019.

The Innovator Scholarship

Where the Diversity scholarship looks to generate opportunities for under-represented groups, the Innovator Scholarship is about doing the same for those who identify as women. The scholarship includes a free pass to MongoDB World 19, lunch with other Innovator Scholarship recipients and a spot at the head of the RSVP queue for the Goal Setting and Visualization Workshop at the Women and Trans Coders lounge at MongoDB World. In this case, we're looking for nominations for anyone over 18, who identifies as a woman, and you can nominate yourself.

You can find further details on the MongoDB World Scholarships page and nominate online. Again, nominations close on April 19th.
