10gen and Microsoft Continue to Blaze a Trail and Make MongoDB Available in the Cloud

Here at 10gen, we continue to cultivate our partnership with Microsoft and the Windows Azure team. As part of 10gen's commitment to make MongoDB available in the cloud, MongoDB is available on both Azure Cloud Services (PaaS) and Azure Virtual Machines (IaaS). At MongoDB Seattle, we had a chance to meet with our friends at Microsoft, who had a booth and presented at the conference.

Doug Mahugh, from Microsoft Open Technologies, co-presented with 10gen engineer, Sridhar Nanjundeswaran, on MongoDB on Azure. They gave a crisp and edifying presentation, covering:

  • Overview of Windows Azure
  • Comparison of Azure Cloud Services (PaaS) vs. Azure Virtual Machines (IaaS)
  • Basics of deploying MongoDB on Azure
  • Demo of deploying an actual MongoDB replica set to Azure
  • Tips and best practices

Additionally, while we were out in Seattle, our Node.js engineer, Aaron Heckmann, got the chance to shoot a Channel 9 video with the Microsoft team on some of the cool things that developers can do using Node.js, MongoDB, and Azure.

We look forward to continuing our development of this partnership and more tools to make it easy for developers to deploy MongoDB on Azure.
